There is no light. We create light.

“Come and receive the light!” The officiant’s words rang out, as they do every year on Easter night, and despite the restrictions imposed by the current situation, millions upon millions of believers throughout the Orthodox world managed—through an incredible and wonderful chain of volunteers and neighbors—to bring the holy flame into their own homes, which is considered one of the most sacred symbols of Christianity and spiritual evolution:
light has been a symbol of divine power since the moment of creation (“Let there be light!”); Jesus defines himself as “the light of the world,” and light has always been regarded as a symbol of clarity, growth, and knowledge.

“Everything is vibration. I believe in a central cosmic vibration, and I believe we are in constant contact with it. You can call it God. Music must be understood exactly in this way; it is humanity’s shortest path to the revelation and experience of the central vibration.”
Sergiu Celibidache, conductor and composer

On the other hand, darkness represents negativity, ignorance, and separation from the source of light, and the light/darkness dichotomy has a profound and ancestral meaning: it is no coincidence that Satan is defined as the “Prince of Darkness,” even though his name was once Lucifer, which means “bringer of light.”

Obviously, the symbolic value of light is not unique to Christianity; on the contrary: in every culture, light represents spiritual growth, knowledge, and contact with the divine; those who evolve are “enlightened”; there are schools of light, beings of light, warriors of light, and forces of light that fight against darkness and obscurantism.
Even in a Hollywood saga like “Star Wars,” the villainous Darth Vader represents “the dark side of the Force,” and we need not even recall the archetypal significance of light and darkness as psychological and psychoanalytic symbols.

Does light really exist?

Given all this, how would you react to the claim that LIGHT SIMPLY DOES NOT EXIST?
That the sun does not illuminate the world, that the stars do not shine, that the moon reflects nothing, that there is only darkness in the universe?

It may seem paradoxical, but if we stop to think about it for a moment, the statement becomes obvious: everything that exists in the universe is simply electromagnetic vibrations emitted by different bodies at different frequencies.
What we call “light” is nothing more than a microscopic section of the frequency spectrum to which our eyes react chemically, producing electrical signals that the brain then reassembles to give them meaning.
If our eyes were even slightly different, what we “see” would be of an entirely different kind (and in fact, animals have a very different perception of objects and colors than we do).
And if we had sensory organs structured differently, we could perceive and decode the infinite frequencies that surround us but which we do not “see”:
I don’t know if you’ve ever thought about it, but the air around you is saturated with sounds, images, movies, songs, etc., which you don’t see,” but which become real once you turn on the TV or radio and tune in to a specific channel.

And just as there is no such thing as light, there is no such thing as sound: this is simply another—incredibly limited—part of the lower-frequency spectrum, to which the eardrum reacts by creating “sound.” Everything else, again, does not exist for us. And yet, animals can hear it: the nightingale’s song—which already seems wonderful to us—is two-thirds ultrasound, which we cannot hear; while the song of whales consists of vibrations at frequencies far too low for us to perceive.

Your brain creates the experience of light and sound

I could go on giving examples, but I think I’ve made the point: we live in a dark and silent universe, surrounded by vibrations of which we are able to make sense of only a tiny fraction of them—what we call light and sound.
From this perspective, what mystics have maintained for millennia—that we are the ones who create our reality—is no longer just a trite cliché, but takes on the force of scientific truth:

There is no light. We create light.

There is no sound. We create sound.

But then, if things like light and sound—which we have probably always regarded as external realities—are merely our own creation (or, more accurately, a specific physiological response to an external vibration), what about the rest?

What about love, beauty and meaning?

We are constantly searching for love, meaning, happiness, beauty… and we don’t realize that these things, too, are created by us.

We want love, but only we can create it.

We want happiness, but it’s entirely our choice.

We want beauty, but we create beauty (as the saying goes, beauty is in the eye of the beholder).

We seek the meaning of life (“meaning,” in its dual sense of “purpose” and “direction”), but we are the answer.

So, it’s good to receive the light. It’s a beautiful symbol. But remember that this light doesn’t exist independently of you: it’s just a vibration to which you react—you are the one who creates the light.
If you decide to turn away, you’ll reject the light. And you’ll experience darkness. It’s everyone’s choice.

Choosing the right frequency

Love, growth, happiness, meaning… even these are nothing more than frequencies, which exist only if you decide to “see” them; they exist only if you “don’t turn away,” if you “tune in” to the right channel.

And, especially since it’s Easter, seek out this “central vibration,” this “light,” regardless of how you conceive of it. And align yourself with this frequency.

Everything else will immediately take on “meaning” in both senses of the word: “significance” and “direction.”
